Two phrases rose sharply in our selected panel: estimated UK monthly searches for “pdrn skincare” increased from 590 in August 2025 to 1,600 in August 2026 (+171.2%); “peptides skincare” rose from 4,400 to 8,100 (+84.1%). These are changes in specific search phrases. They do not measure total demand for an ingredient or demonstrate that it works.
Moumoujus selected 24 ingredient-related phrases ending in “skincare” before retrieving the results, alongside eight ectoin and ceramide question or product-format controls. All 32 returned data. The tables show every requested phrase, including those that fell. The comparison uses August in both years: it was the latest month with a prior-year counterpart available across the whole panel when we retrieved the data on 20 October 2026.
The 24-query ingredient snapshot
Each phrase ends in “skincare”, after an ingredient name or category such as peptides or fermented skincare. That makes the wording consistent, but it still does not capture every way someone searches for that ingredient. For example, people may search for a vitamin C serum without using the word “skincare”. The rows follow our fixed panel order, rather than a league table of ingredients.

What is interesting about the contrast?
“Pdrn skincare” had the largest percentage increase in this 24-phrase panel, from a smaller baseline than “peptides skincare”. Meanwhile, “niacinamide skincare” fell from 210 to 90 and “hyaluronic acid skincare” from 320 to 210. We cannot infer from these phrases that fewer people used those ingredients, that one ingredient displaced another, or that social media caused the changes.
For us, the useful editorial question is what readers need explained. A new name deserves the same scrutiny as a familiar one: what was tested, in which preparation, on whom, and with what limitations? Search interest is a reason to answer a question carefully, rather than a reason to strengthen an efficacy claim.
Ingredient interest and format interest differ
Our separate eight-query comparison shows why wording matters. “Ectoin” was unchanged at 1,600, while “ectoin serum” rose from 140 to 320. “Ceramide cream” increased from 720 to 1,300, but “ceramide serum” fell from 880 to 590. These controls are presented separately; they are not added to the ingredient panel.
| Search phrase | Aug 2025 | Aug 2026 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| ectoin | 1,600 | 1,600 | 0.0% |
| what is ectoin | 170 | 260 | +52.9% |
| ectoin serum | 140 | 320 | +128.6% |
| ectoin cream | 90 | 70 | -22.2% |
| ceramide moisturiser | 720 | 880 | +22.2% |
| ceramide cream | 720 | 1,300 | +80.6% |
| ceramide serum | 880 | 590 | -33.0% |
| moisturiser with ceramides | 1,900 | 2,400 | +26.3% |
Methodology and downloadable data
We requested one fixed panel through the DataForSEO Labs Google Keyword Overview API, with United Kingdom location code 2826, language code en, SERP enrichment off and clickstream enrichment off. The service describes its source as a keyword database based on Google Ads. Every query in the request returned a result. The complete panel and the monthly values used are available below.
For each phrase, we extracted the individual August 2025 and August 2026 estimates, rather than comparing rolling averages or different months. Change is (2026 estimate − 2025 estimate) ÷ 2025 estimate × 100, rounded to one decimal place, with halves away from zero. All baselines in this panel are above zero; we would not calculate a percentage from a zero baseline. The monthly download contains 13 observations per phrase, from August 2025 through August 2026.

The estimates are rounded, can group close variants and can be revised. We have not summed overlapping phrases. Percentage changes from small, rounded counts can look large; they are descriptive, not statistically tested growth rates. Two comparison months cannot establish a sustained trend, explain a cause or forecast demand. This purposive panel is not representative of the whole skincare market, and it does not measure Google rankings, AI citations or our website’s traffic.
