While other ingredients in this group typically see use at 4.9% or less, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, another polysilsesquioxane, has been reported at concentrations up to 55.2% in certain makeup preparations. Generally, no adverse effects were observed for the group, though slight local erythema and dryness were noted for Polymethylsilsesquioxane at 200 mg/kg/day in rabbits. A precursor, Trimethoxysilane, was moderately irritating to rabbit eyes but did not cause sensitization.
