Mechanism of Action
Tilia Cordata Oil acts on multiple pathways to enhance skin health. Its flower-derived components, including flavonoids and volatile oils, provide significant antioxidant capacity to neutralize free radicals, alongside antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Mucilages present in the oil are responsible for its potent moisturizing and soothing actions, contributing to a reduction in irritation and redness and offering comfort for conditions like eczema. The seed oil is characterized by a high linoleic acid content (50-60%), which, by activating PPAR-α in keratinocytes, helps regulate cell proliferation, diminish inflammation, and maintain skin homeostasis. This also improves skin hydration by reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Furthermore, squalene and tocopherols offer additional antioxidant protection against lipid peroxidation, while phytosterols function as emollients, inhibit UV-induced MMP-1, and promote collagen synthesis for anti-aging effects.

Safety Profile
While the U.S. FDA recognizes linden tree extracts as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for food consumption, specific cosmetic forms such as 'Linden Blossom Absolute' (Tilia Cordata, ext.) carry GHS classifications indicating potential for Skin Corrosion / Irritation (Category 2), Serious Eye Damage / Irritation (Category 2), and Skin Sensitization (Category 1). Therefore, it is strongly advised to use this ingredient well-diluted, as it has been identified as a possible skin irritant and sensitizer in some individuals. Comprehensive CIR or SCCS safety reviews for Tilia Cordata Oil itself are currently unavailable.
