The RIFM Expert Panel for Fragrance Safety has deemed 1-oxaspiro[4.5]deca-3,6-diene, 2,6,9,10-tetramethyl- (CAS 71078-31-4) safe based on their comprehensive assessment. This evaluation considered genotoxicity, repeated dose toxicity, reproductive toxicity, respiratory toxicity, photoirritation/photoallergenicity, and skin sensitization. A photo-CNIH test at 2% concentration showed no reactions in 35 subjects, suggesting no concern for photoirritation or photoallergenicity. It was also found to be non-clastogenic in an in vitro micronucleus test up to 90 μg/mL. The ingredient does not meet GHS hazard criteria and is listed as 'ACTIVE' by the EPA TSCA.
