Mechanism of Action
This ingredient operates via several biological pathways to promote skin rejuvenation. It notably increases epidermal hyaluronic acid by upregulating hyaluronan synthase 2 (HAS2) and HAS3, leading to enhanced skin hydration and thickness. Tetrahydrojasmonic acid reinforces the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) by stimulating the deposition of laminin-5, collagen IV, and fibrillin, alongside increased expression of α6-integrin and laminin-332. Furthermore, it enhances the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, promotes skin cell proliferation, and stimulates the expression of barrier proteins like loricrin and filaggrin, contributing to a strengthened skin barrier and improved mechanical properties. It also increases collagen I and III protein expression and accelerates desquamation of the stratum corneum.
