Tetrahydrocurcumin, a hydrophobic substance, is sparingly soluble in aqueous buffers but offers superior stability at pH 7.4. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, DMSO, and dimethyl formamide (DMF), and should be solubilized in a suitable solvent before incorporation into an emulsion at or below 40°C (104°F). Formulations must utilize nonionic or anionic emulsions, strictly avoiding cationic systems. The inclusion of additional antioxidants and photostabilizers is recommended. Due to its properties, it is not suitable for use in clear gels, serums, or toners. Stainless steel vessels should be employed during production to prevent incompatibilities.
