Its high melting point, ranging from 82-86°C (180-187°F), significantly boosts the thermostability of formulations and suppresses oil migration. On the skin, it establishes a protective, water-repellent barrier, while its inherent emollient properties aid in conditioning and softening the skin.

This wax is insoluble in water but soluble in alcohols and oils upon heating. It requires melting at approximately 84°C (183.2°F) for proper integration into the oil phases of emulsions. Its high melting point (82-86°C) confers excellent thermostability, and carnauba wax nanoemulsions have shown stability between pH 7.5 and 8.5.

Mimicking natural carnauba wax, Synthetic Carnauba is considered safe for cosmetic application, a status re-affirmed by the CIR Expert Panel. Primary skin irritation tests using 100% carnauba wax on albino rats demonstrated no irritation. It is also recognized as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) by the FDA for food use (E903). While generally well-tolerated and non-comedogenic, rare individual sensitivities have been reported, making patch testing advisable.
