Sucrose Laurate achieves maximum stability at a pH range of 4 to 5, where hydrolysis is approximately 6.7% after 20 hours at 100°C. Its amphiphilic nature supports the solubilization of poorly water-soluble compounds and the dispersion of essential oils. It is compatible with acidic pH, making it suitable for exfoliating products. However, it can be prone to hydrolytic instability during prolonged storage, potentially leading to increased crystallinity.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has concluded that saccharide esters, including Sucrose Laurate, are safe for use in cosmetics at present practices and concentrations. While dermal exposure studies in test animals showed some irritation potential at 5-15% concentrations, an unknown concentration in a hydrogel was non-irritating. A 10% solution instilled into rabbit eyes did exceed a mild irritation threshold (MDES of 21, threshold 20). Overall, in typical cosmetic applications, it is considered to have a low irritancy profile.
