Mechanism of Action
This ingredient functions through two primary peptide components. SR-Rainbow Trout Oligopeptide-1 acts as a Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF), prompting skin cells to regenerate and facilitating healing by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. SH-Oligopeptide-2, identified as Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1), is crucial for cell growth, proliferation, and wound repair. It significantly enhances the biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid and other extracellular matrix components. Furthermore, SH-Oligopeptide-2 can synergize with Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF, sometimes referred to as SH-Oligopeptide-1) to boost keratinocyte proliferation, activate the AKT cellular signaling pathway pertinent to anti-aging, and promote angiogenesis to revitalize aged tissues.

Stability
Products containing this ingredient require storage between 2-25℃ (36-77℉). Freezing and exposure to excessive heat above 40℃ (104℉) should be strictly avoided to maintain stability.
Synergies
- SH-Oligopeptide-2 (IGF-1) can work synergistically with Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF, often referred to as SH-Oligopeptide-1) to promote keratinocyte proliferation.
Safety
Safety Profile
The FDA, through DailyMed, has listed products containing 'SR-RAINBOW TROUT OLIGOPEPTIDE-1 SH-OLIGOPEPTIDE-2' as an 'unapproved drug other,' explicitly stating it 'has not been found by FDA to be safe and effective, and this labeling has not been approved by FDA.' Furthermore, general cautions are associated with growth factors such as SH-Oligopeptide-2 (IGF-1), given their observed correlation with tumorigenesis or progression, with recombinant IGF-1 specifically linked to melanoma progression. While SH-Oligopeptide-1 (EGF) is authorized as a cosmetic in various concentrations, its long-term risks remain unknown, and active EGF can be considered a potent unauthorized drug in specific contexts. The irritancy is rated as medium.

Our Assessment
Verdict
Given the explicit FDA declaration that this ingredient has not been found safe or effective, and concerns linking growth factors like IGF-1 to tumorigenesis, its use in skincare is strongly discouraged.
