Data from CIR and SCCS are currently insufficient for SH-Oligopeptide-1. While authorized for general cosmetic use in various concentrations, its long-term safety profiles remain to be fully established. Active EGF is considered a potent unauthorized drug, and human recombinant EGF (hr-EGF) is not approved as a medication outside of clinical trials. As a growth factor, a critical caution is associated with the potential for tumorigenesis if overexpression or dysregulation occurs, given EGF signaling presence in many tumor cells. Therefore, products containing EGF-mimetic applications should be used with informed caution. However, SH-Oligopeptide-1 in some cosmetic formulations has been tested as non-carcinogenic.
