Its mechanism of action encompasses providing defense against UV damage and stimulating keratinocyte proliferation, which collectively improves cell turnover and reinforces barrier function. It actively boosts collagen production to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Thanks to its multiple hydroxyl (OH) groups, Schizophyllan efficiently attracts and binds water molecules, significantly improving skin hydration and contributing to skin volume and density. The ingredient also exhibits robust antioxidant properties, neutralizing skin damage from environmental pollutants and reducing oxidative stress. Furthermore, it possesses anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects by inhibiting phospholipase A2 activity to calm inflammation, while activating macrophages and dendritic cells to produce beneficial cytokines and chemokines. It additionally promotes the increased production of transforming growth factor beta, thereby contributing to enhanced collagen synthesis.
