Mechanism of Action
This extract exerts its beneficial effects through several key mechanisms. It acts as an antimicrobial agent by actively controlling the proliferation of microorganisms, including bacteria and fungi, on the skin's surface. As a humectant, it significantly enhances the stratum corneum's capacity for water absorption, thereby minimizing trans-epidermal water loss and preventing dryness. Additionally, the extract contains active compounds such as xylooligosaccharides and polyphenols, which contribute to its robust antioxidant properties by scavenging free radicals, mitigating oxidative stress, and protecting cellular structures from environmental damage.

Safety Profile
Comprehensive safety assessments indicate a very high safety margin, with an acute toxicity LD50 exceeding 5,000 mg/kg. Extensive cosmetic safety tests, including those for reverse mutation, chromosomal abnormality, phototoxicity, photosensitivity, primary skin irritation, and 2-week continuous skin irritation, yielded negative results. Skin sensitization tests also demonstrated a negative outcome, suggesting a low risk of allergic reactions. While very mild ocular mucosal irritation was observed at 100% concentration, this is typically not representative of in-use cosmetic concentrations. Furthermore, no residual pesticides were detected in the raw material used for extraction.
