A Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) on a serum containing 0.0025% Salix Alba Bark Extract found it to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing. General willow bark extracts are considered safe for cosmetic use; however, individuals with known allergies to aspirin (salicylates) should exercise caution due to the salicin content. Specific SCCS guidance for dietary supplements advises against willow bark use for children, pregnant/nursing women, and those with aspirin sensitivity due to its salicylate content. While topical application differs from ingestion, caution is advised for pregnant or nursing individuals.
