Although the Rhus Verniciflua tree belongs to the same plant family as poison ivy, the wax is derived from the peel, not the allergenic sap, significantly reducing risk. While concerns for allergies and immunotoxicity are rated 'LOW' by the EWG, a patch test is still recommended for individuals with highly sensitive skin to mitigate potential, albeit rare, irritation or contact dermatitis.
