Mechanism of Action
Queen Bee Larva (QBL) delivers its multifaceted benefits through its rich bio-composition, including proteins, amino acids, fatty acids, and minerals. It acts as a primary skin conditioning agent, improving skin texture and softness, while contributing to overall hydration. QBL's crude proteins and hydrolysates demonstrate robust antioxidant activity by scavenging free radicals and effectively inhibit collagenase, thereby preserving vital collagen integrity. Furthermore, it may contribute to the maintenance of extracellular matrix health through hyaluronidase inhibition. Alcohol extracts of QBL also provide liposoluble vitamins (A, D, E) which enhance skin elasticity, stimulate collagen formation, mitigate UV damage, support wound healing, and offer additional anti-inflammatory and moisturizing effects.

Key findings
- 01 Crude proteins and hydrolysates demonstrated strong antioxidant and collagenase-inhibitory activities, without inducing skin irritation in HET-CAM tests.
- 02 A QBL-formulated cream exhibited 88.66% DPPH radical scavenging activity, which is comparable to 0.1 mg/mL vitamin C.

Safety Profile
While generally uncommon, potential side effects include localized allergic reactions such as redness, itching, or swelling, and skin irritation, particularly in individuals with sensitive skin, or in rare cases, contact dermatitis. Patch testing is recommended prior to widespread application. Notably, a QBL protein extract at a concentration of 10 mg/mL did not induce skin irritation in HET-CAM tests. Oral toxicity studies in mice with freeze-dried QBL powder up to 5 g/kg/day showed no treatment-related mortality or systemic toxicity.
