PPG-10/PEG-10 METHICONE, along with related PEG/PPG dimethicone polymers, offers excellent stabilization capabilities and is suitable for cold processing, effectively forming stable emulsions, including water-in-oil types, often without requiring co-emulsifiers. For a related compound, PEG-8 dimethicone, the functional pH range for stable formulations spans pH 5.5 to 8.5. Outside this range, a 20% hydrolysis rate was observed after 45 days at pH 5 and after 86 days at pH 8.

The CIR Expert Panel has deemed PPG-10/PEG-10 METHICONE, within the class of dimethicone and substituted-methicone polymers, safe for use in cosmetics under current practices and concentrations, provided formulations are non-irritating. However, safety data for incidental inhalation from airbrush devices remains insufficient. While a closely related ingredient, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, showed mild skin and minimal eye irritancy in rabbit studies, it was not sensitizing. No concerns for general health hazards or acne breakouts have been identified for PPG-10/PEG-10 METHICONE. It is important to note that EWG advises caution for products containing Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone due to potential contamination with toxic impurities like 1,4-dioxane, necessitating restrictions and warnings.
