Mechanism of Action
This ingredient functions by maintaining the skin in good condition through its properties as a skin conditioning agent. As a synthetic polypropylene glycol (PPG) derivative and part of the PPG Butyl Ether family, it utilizes its wide range of viscosity and solubility. In formulations, it acts as a solubilizer and solvent. On a dermatological level, it contributes to improved skin appearance by actively reducing flaking and enhancing the skin's suppleness.

Key findings
- 01 Several safety assessments on related PPG Butyl Ethers highlight a low potential for irritation or sensitization. For instance, a Repeat Insult Patch Test (RIPT) with 109 subjects showed no skin irritation or sensitization from 0.75% PPG-12-Buteth-16 under semi-occlusive conditions. Similarly, aftershave products containing 2.5% PPG-26-Buteth-26 were confirmed as non-irritants or sensitizers in two 21-day home use tests involving a total of 106 subjects. Broader clinical evaluations involving 200 subjects for PPG BE800 and 112 subjects for PPG-40 Butyl Ether also concluded non-irritating and non-sensitizing properties for these family members.

Stability
PPG-10-BUTETH-9 exhibits good water solubility, estimated at 1188 mg/L at 25°C. Polypropylene glycols and their derivatives are recognized for their excellent skin tolerance and diverse viscosity and solubility characteristics, making them flexible for various cosmetic applications. While heat tolerant, temperatures exceeding 80°C should be avoided, as observed with the related ingredient PPG-9.
