Porphyra 334 functions as a multi-modal skin protectant. It primarily acts as a natural UV-A filter, efficiently absorbing radiation with a peak at approximately 334 nm and dissipating this energy safely as heat, thereby preventing direct photochemical damage to DNA and proteins. Beyond UV absorption, it is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals and significantly suppresses the production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) following UVA exposure, preventing oxidative stress. Porphyra 334 also activates the cytoprotective Keap1-Nrf2 pathway, upregulating the skin's intrinsic antioxidant and defensive genes. Furthermore, it inhibits Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes responsible for degrading collagen and elastin, helping to maintain skin structure, elasticity, and overall youthfulness. It also stabilizes cell membranes and contributes to redox homeostasis.
