Mechanism of Action
Phytin operates through several precise mechanisms to benefit the skin. It acts as a potent antioxidant and free radical scavenger, neutralizing reactive species that cause oxidative damage and contribute to premature aging. As a powerful chelating agent, it binds to detrimental metal ions like iron and calcium on the skin and within formulations, preventing them from catalyzing oxidative processes, especially under UV exposure. Its exfoliating action is achieved by promoting cell desquamation and accelerating cell turnover, partly through reducing calcium ion concentration in the epidermis. Furthermore, Phytin inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme crucial for melanin production, thereby contributing to a brighter and more uniform skin tone. It also stimulates collagen synthesis and helps protect existing collagen from breakdown, supporting overall skin health, reducing visible pores, and aiding in oil control.
