Mechanism of Action
This polysaccharide functions by significantly inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby preventing oxidative damage from UVA exposure. It offers photoprotection through a 'pseudo-melanin shield effect' by absorbing UV rays, blue light, and near-infrared light. Its anti-aging action involves reducing elastase activity to preserve elastin and delay wrinkle formation, attenuating UVA-induced cellular aging by decreasing the protein expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-1, -3, and -9, and increasing tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1). Additionally, it actively inhibits glycation damage, enhances cellular viability for improved hydration and moisture retention, and possesses anti-inflammatory activities. The polysaccharides also promote fibroblast proliferation and migration, suggesting a role in wound healing.

Key findings
- 01 Protected Hs68 cells against UVA-induced oxidative damage by inhibiting ROS production and attenuated UVA-induced cell aging by decreasing MMP-1, -3, and -9 expression, while increasing TIMP-1 protein expression by 41% to 56% respectively.
- 02 Demonstrated a moisturizing effect approximately 2.5 times greater than hyaluronic acid in a moisture retaining rate test.
- 03 Protected the viability of Methylglyoxal-induced Hs68 cells, with 1.5 mg/mL showing a higher protective effect against glycation damage.
- 04 Exhibited strong antioxidant and anti-collagenase activity, significantly reducing cellular ROS content and promoting L929 fibroblast proliferation and migration.
- 05 Showed inhibition effects on superoxide anions (63.24%), hydroxyl radicals (53.11%), and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals (59.33%).
