Mechanism of Action
This ingredient effectively stabilizes emulsions by acting as an emulsifier, allowing water and oil components to blend seamlessly. It serves as a cleansing agent, facilitating the suspension of dirt and oil for easy rinsing. On the skin, it provides a smooth, non-greasy finish, enhances the spreadability of formulations, and may contribute to improved skin elasticity. Its multifaceted profile also includes roles as a surfactant, wetting agent, water repellent, slip agent, conditioning agent, humectant, emollient, plasticizer, anti-foaming agent, and anti-caking agent.

Safety Profile
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel concluded that dimethicone copolyols, a class including PEG/PPG-22/24 Dimethicone, are safe for cosmetic use, a conclusion reaffirmed in 2003 and 2005. Clinical studies at 100% concentration showed it to be neither a primary skin irritant nor a sensitizer. This ingredient is also approved for use in cosmetic products within the European Union.
