PEG-8 BEESWAX.

Valuable / SURFACTANT - EMULSIFYING

PEG-8 Beeswax is a versatile non-ionic emulsifier that effectively blends oil and water phases, creating stable skincare formulations. Beyond its textural contributions, it imparts notable moisturizing and emollient benefits, enhancing skin hydration and softness.

emulsifying emollient stabilizer thickener moisturizing texture enhancer

Science

This ingredient functions primarily as a non-ionic emulsifier and co-emulsifier, facilitating the creation of stable oil-in-water emulsions by bridging immiscible liquid phases. It acts as a stabilizer, thickener, and gelling agent for the oil phase, improving product consistency and homogeneity. On the skin, PEG-8 Beeswax forms a light, breathable lipid layer that minimizes transepidermal water loss, thereby enhancing skin hydration and fortifying the barrier. It also serves as an emollient, conditioning and softening the skin, while improving overall product texture, spreadability, and pigment dispersion.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has deemed PEG-8 Beeswax safe for use in cosmetic formulations under current practices. It is considered non-irritating and non-sensitizing to normal skin; however, PEGs can be absorbed through damaged skin. Formulators must ensure that 1,4-dioxane, a potential byproduct of PEG synthesis, is thoroughly filtered out due to its known toxicity.
