Valuable CAS 68648-27-1 / SKIN CONDITIONING - EMOLLIENT, SURFACTANT - EMULSIFYING

PEG-20 Hydrogenated Lanolin is a versatile ingredient that enhances cosmetic elegance and formulation stability. It functions primarily as a skin conditioning emollient, leaving the skin soft and smooth, while also serving as an effective emulsifier and solubilizer to create stable product textures.

Emollient Emulsifier Skin Conditioning Agent Surfactant Solubilizer

Science

This ingredient conditions the skin by imparting emollient properties, contributing to a softer, smoother feel. Its surfactant and emulsifying capabilities stabilize oil and water mixtures by reducing interfacial tension. PEG-20 Hydrogenated Lanolin further enhances product formulations by providing exceptional slip, spreadability, and a non-tacky film, and acts as a solubilizer for various active ingredients, fragrance oils, and colorants.

Sensitization risk Low

The CIR Expert Panel concluded that PEG-20 Hydrogenated Lanolin is safe for cosmetic use. It demonstrated nontoxicity in acute oral, dermal, and inhalation studies. Eye irritation was minimal or absent at 50-100%, and skin irritation was mild or negligible at concentrations up to 100%. It was consistently reported as nonsensitizing in animal studies and nonirritating and nonsensitizing in human patients at concentrations up to 60%. No evidence of mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, or developmental toxicity was found. Trace amounts of 1,4-dioxane, a by-product of ethoxylation, may be present but are controlled through purification processes. The highest reported concentration in leave-on products is 5%.
