Reputable manufacturers are expected to implement stringent purification processes to remove these impurities. The US FDA approves PEGs for cosmetic applications, and polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 6,000 is even permitted as a food additive. The SCCS has not issued a specific opinion on PEG-18 individually.
