Concurrently, it boosts skin hydration by increasing levels of filaggrin and its associated enzymes (matriptase, prostasin, caspase-14), which are vital for natural moisturizing factor (NMF) production. The parent Boesenbergia pandurata extract (BPE), containing Panduratin A, received approval in 2012 from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea as a health/functional food for skin moisturization and UV protection. Human oral intake studies with BPE containing 8% Panduratin A reported no adverse symptoms, and animal studies indicated no toxicity at administered doses. A specific CIR or SCCS safety assessment for topical application of isolated Panduratin A is currently unavailable.
