Safety Profile
P-CRESYL 3-METHYLCROTONATE, also known as p-Tolyl 3-methylcrotonate, has been assessed by the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM). It has been determined not to be genotoxic, photoirritating, or photoallergenic. Exposure levels are below the Dermal Sensitization Threshold (DST) of 900 μg/cm² for non-reactive substances and below the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) for repeated dose (0.03 mg/kg/day), reproductive toxicity (0.03 mg/kg/day), and local respiratory toxicity (1.4 mg/day). However, specific maximum acceptable concentration limits are established to mitigate skin sensitization risk: 0.005% in lip products and 0.001% in axillary products. While often considered non-irritating, there is a recognized potential for irritation, particularly when co-formulated with other ingredients known to be irritating.
