Mechanism of Action
This extract functions as an emollient, forming a protective barrier that seals moisture into the skin, thereby reducing dryness. Rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, and essential fatty acids, it exhibits robust free radical scavenging capabilities. It targets melanogenesis by inhibiting tyrosinase (TYR) and related proteins (TYRP-1/2), and by modulating PI3K/AKT/mTOR/CREB and MAPK signaling pathways to suppress microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF). In anti-photoaging, it inhibits UVB-induced collagen degradation, suppresses MMP-1 and IL-1β expression, stimulates SIRT1, and deactivates p38 and JNK proteins, leading to reduced NF-κB and AP-1 activation. Additionally, it alleviates skin inflammation and irritation by inhibiting IL-1β production and TRPV1 expression.

Key findings
- 01 In vitro studies demonstrate that an ethyl acetate fraction of Nypa fruticans (ENF) at concentrations of 25-100 µg/ml dose-dependently inhibited melanogenesis in B16F10 melanoma cells.
- 02 Another in vitro study (NF50E treatment) indicated inhibition of UVB-induced collagen degradation, suppression of MMP-1 and IL-1β expressions, stimulation of SIRT1 expression, and deactivation of p38 and JNK proteins in photoaging models.
- 03 Patent applications describe the extract's efficacy in free radical scavenging, inhibition of TRPV1 expression, mitigation of UV-induced cytotoxicity, inhibition of inflammatory cytokine IL-1β production, and inhibition of MMP-1 production, contributing to antioxidant, anti-irritation, and anti-wrinkle effects.
