- 01 In vitro studies indicate anti-inflammatory potential: a 20% aqueous ethanol extract of Nardostachys jatamansi (NJ20) at 40 µg/mL significantly inhibited lipopolysaccharide-induced excessive production of pro-inflammatory mediators (nitric oxide, prostaglandin E₂, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) and attenuated iNOS and cyclooxygenase-2 overexpression in microglial cells. While this suggests beneficial cellular activity, direct human topical efficacy requires further investigation.
- 02 In vitro research also demonstrated antiproliferative effects of Nardostachys jatamansi root extract against neuroblastoma human cancer cell lines. Concentrations of 30mg/ml and 100mg/ml resulted in 54% and 91% growth inhibition against IMR-32 cells, and 45% and 82% against SKN-SH cells, respectively. These findings highlight biological activity but are not directly extrapolated to general cosmetic skin benefits.
