This extract functions by modulating several key biological processes in the skin. It significantly reduces levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, and IL-6, which are critical mediators in inflammatory skin conditions. Furthermore, it inhibits the activity of enzymes including cyclooxygenase (COX)-2, iNOS, tyrosinase, elastase, lipoxygenase, MMP-1, and MMP-3, thereby addressing inflammation, hyperpigmentation, collagen degradation, and excessive sebum production. Its antioxidant capacity is evidenced by its ability to scavenge DPPH radicals and increase ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC), protecting against oxidative damage.
