This extract contains a diverse phytochemical profile, including carbohydrates, alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and phenols. On the skin, it primarily functions as an antioxidant, safeguarding against environmental damage by inhibiting aldose reductase and xanthine oxidase activities. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, effectively reducing redness and irritation. Skin brightening is achieved by inhibiting tyrosinase activity and subsequently reducing melanin deposition. Additionally, it provides antimicrobial benefits against various pathogens, including P. acnes, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus aureus, and contributes to photoprotection by mitigating UVB-induced matrix metalloproteinase expression. Essential vitamins and minerals further support skin hydration and soothing.
