Mechanism of Action
This extract derives its efficacy from a rich composition of bioactive compounds, including lignans like magnolin, pinoresinol dimethyl ether, and fargesin, alongside phenolic compounds such as magnolol and honokiol. It mitigates UVB-induced skin damage by inhibiting the migration of HMGB1 (high mobility group box protein B1) and reducing DNA damage, leading to a decrease in pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically IL-8 and PGE-2. Furthermore, its antimicrobial activity targets Propionibacterium acnes, and its capacity to inhibit NF-κB activation contributes to its soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, making it beneficial for irritated and acne-prone skin. In preliminary in-vitro studies, it has also shown potential to impede melanoma cell proliferation and migration.
