Mechanism of Action
This essential oil exerts its antimicrobial action primarily through highly hydrophobic monoterpenes like carvacrol and thymol. These compounds degrade microbial cell walls, increase membrane fluidity and permeability, and disrupt cytoplasmic membrane integrity, inhibiting respiration and altering ion transport.
