The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel deemed Lapyrium Chloride safe for cosmetic use, a finding reconfirmed in 2007. While a 50% concentration under occluded conditions led to slight to moderate erythema on human skin, other tests indicated only very slight dermal irritation on both intact and abraded skin. Direct contact with the ingredient can provoke irritation to the skin or eyes. It is also listed by the FDA as an active ingredient in approved drug products.
