Mechanism of Action
LANETH-20 operates by significantly decreasing the interfacial tension between the oil and water components within a formulation. This reduction allows otherwise incompatible substances to blend stably, preventing phase separation. Beyond its primary role as an emulsifier, it also acts as a cleansing agent by helping to suspend oils and dirt, and contributes to controlling product viscosity.

Safety Profile
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has deemed polyether lanolin ingredients, including LANETH-20, safe for use in cosmetics when formulated to be non-irritating. Manufacturers must be diligent in ensuring purity, as residual ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, potential carcinogens, may be present from the ethoxylation process.
