Mechanism of Action
This extract acts as an antioxidant by leveraging its flavonoid content to neutralize free radicals, thereby mitigating cellular damage and signs of aging. Its anti-inflammatory capacity stems from suppressing inflammatory factors and downregulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) expression, further enhanced by kaurane type diterpenoids. It provides antimicrobial action by inhibiting the proliferation of *C. acnes*, which is beneficial for acne management. Anti-allergic and soothing effects are observed through reduced free radical damage, lowered mast cell counts, decreased IgE expression, and alleviation of pruritus and swelling. For anti-aging, it contributes to dermal redensification, increased collagen fibers, and improved collagen matrix quality, combating skin sagging, reducing wrinkle depth, and refining jawline contour. Specific compounds like oridonin and nodosin also inhibit melanogenesis, supporting skin brightening, and it obstructs the activities of elastase, lipase, and hyaluronidase.
