HYDROLYZED SOY.

Valuable CAS 235433-33-7 / SKIN CONDITIONING

Hydrolyzed Soy is a potent protein hydrolysate that delivers a complex of amino acids and peptides to the skin. It is clinically recognized for significantly improving hydration, enhancing elasticity, and reinforcing the skin's natural barrier function.

Skin conditioning Humectant Antioxidant Barrier support Collagen booster Elasticity enhancer Pigmentation modulator

Science

Hydrolyzed Soy protein functions by providing short-chain peptides and amino acids that effectively mimic the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF), drawing and retaining water in the stratum corneum to boost moisture content and improve softness. It strengthens the skin barrier, consequently reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Furthermore, its peptides and isoflavones exhibit antioxidant activity, neutralizing free radicals from environmental aggressors, thereby protecting against photoaging. The ingredient stimulates cell renewal, supports collagen and hyaluronic acid production, and inhibits the breakdown of elasticity, leading to firmer skin. It also modulates skin pigmentation by interfering with protease-activated receptor-2-mediated melanosome transfer, reducing the visibility of dark spots.

Key findings

  1. 01 Topical application of soy protein hydrolysates significantly enhanced skin hydration and elasticity in adult women with mild to moderate dry skin over an eight-week period. These benefits are attributed to its humectant and barrier-restoring properties, with peptides shown to reduce TEWL and improve water-binding capacity.
  2. 02 Clinical studies have also demonstrated a notable reduction in the appearance of dark circles and dark spots around the eyes, as well as an improvement in sun-damaged skin after 8 weeks of consistent treatment.

The CIR Expert Panel has confirmed Hydrolyzed Soy Protein is safe for use in cosmetics at current practices and concentrations up to 25%. Despite soy being a food allergen, the water-soluble nature and low molecular weight of the hydrolyzed form are deemed unlikely to induce dermal allergic reactions. Human studies show it is neither a dermal irritant nor a sensitizer at concentrations up to 25%.
