HYDROLYZED MILK.

Valuable / SKIN CONDITIONING, SKIN CONDITIONING - EMOLLIENT

Hydrolyzed Milk is a multi-functional ingredient, rich in peptides and amino acids, designed to enhance skin hydration and barrier function. It actively contributes to cell restructuring, promotes collagen synthesis, and provides anti-inflammatory benefits, resulting in smoother, more resilient skin.

Skin-conditioning Humectant

Science

This ingredient works by delivering amino acids that penetrate the skin to support cellular restructuring. Its peptides stimulate the skin's natural repair mechanisms and boost collagen production, which improves elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines. Hydrolyzed Milk forms a protective film on the skin surface, effectively preventing moisture loss and maintaining hydration. It also functions as a gentle cleanser, attracting dirt and dead skin cells for easy removal, and offers anti-inflammatory properties to calm sensitive, irritated skin while protecting the skin barrier from drying agents.

Stability

Optimal stability is maintained within a pH range of 4.0 to 7.0; values below 4.0 can induce precipitation. When formulated at a 5% protein level, strong salt solutions or 2% sodium hydroxide can lead to the formation of a thick, rubbery gel. For emulsions, it should be integrated into the aqueous phase after the emulsion has fully formed and at temperatures below 40°C (104°F).

Conflicts

  • pH below 4.0 (risk of precipitation)
  • Strong salt solutions (risk of gel formation)
  • 2% sodium hydroxide (risk of gel formation)

Sensitization risk Low

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has deemed Hydrolyzed Milk Protein safe for use in current cosmetic practices and concentrations. It demonstrated non-irritating properties in human testing up to 5% and in rabbit studies up to 25%. No photoirritation or photosensitization was observed in human subjects at 5%, nor was it mutagenic in Ames assays at concentrations up to 5000 µg/plate. Bovine milk proteins are recognized as generally safe (GRAS) by the FDA, and this ingredient is not restricted under EU cosmetic regulations.
