This ingredient operates as a skin conditioning agent by promoting moisture preservation, thereby contributing to a smooth and soft skin surface. As a silylated derivative of hydrolyzed keratin, it is theorized to protect and repair, extending similar benefits to the skin by enhancing texture and moisture retention. Hydrolyzed keratins can function dually as a humectant, drawing water into the stratum corneum, and as an occlusive, minimizing transepidermal water loss. Lower molecular weight fractions possess the capacity to penetrate the stratum corneum, while higher molecular weight fractions form a protective film on the epidermal surface.
