Mechanism of Action
This extract functions by delivering bioactive peptides that exhibit strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects within the skin. It supports the repair of endogenous collagen and elastin protein fibers and helps maintain the crucial natural ratio of type I to type III collagen, offering protection against UV-induced damage (photoaging). The ingredient enhances the skin's moisture retention capacity, activates cells for wrinkle reduction, and promotes keratinocyte reactivation, alongside increasing involukrin and transglutaminase production.

Key findings
- 01 At 0.74 mg/mL, it exhibited 50% hydroxyl radical scavenging activity in vitro and protected HaCaT cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage. EC50 values for scavenging superoxide anion and DPPH radical were 1.55 mg/mL and 1.99 mg/mL, respectively.
- 02 A concentration of 50 µg/mL increased endothelial cell proliferation (EA.hy926 endothelial cells) in vitro and provided protection against cholesterol-induced apoptosis and VE-cadherin downregulation.
- 03 In a study on UV-induced photoaging mice, Jellyfish Collagen Hydrolysate significantly improved skin moisture retention, repaired endogenous collagen and elastin protein fibers, maintained the natural ratio of type I to type III collagen, and enhanced immunity. This hydrolysate showed a superior protective ability compared to non-hydrolyzed jellyfish collagen.
- 04 When formulated in a niosome, jellyfish collagen hydrolysate demonstrated antioxidant activity (65.9% DPPH scavenging and 34.6% metal chelating activity) and robust antibacterial activity (up to 98.8% against Staphylococcus aureus), indicating its suitability for topical applications.

Stability
Solubility can vary with pH. Acid-soluble forms dissolve transparently in acidic solutions of pH 1-4, are insoluble in water at pH 4-10, and can disperse in alkaline conditions (pH 10 or more). Neutral-soluble jellyfish collagen is water-soluble across all pH ranges. Enzymatic hydrolysis during preparation typically occurs at pH 7.0-8.0.
Safety
Safety Profile
Jellyfish-derived collagen exhibits high biocompatibility, a low risk of allergenic responses, and minimal potential for zoonotic disease transmission. Jellyfish peptides are generally noted for their excellent antioxidant activity and safety profile.
