Mechanism of Action
HCP's efficacy stems from its ability to deliver smaller peptides that penetrate the stratum corneum, reaching deeper epidermal layers. These peptides are instrumental in replenishing structural proteins and stimulating new keratin cell synthesis, thereby enhancing skin regeneration and improving overall structure. As a powerful humectant, HCP attracts and binds moisture within the epidermis, significantly boosting hydration and establishing a protective barrier against transepidermal water loss. Its pronounced anti-melanogenesis properties are attributed to several pathways: it acts as an anti-endothelin antagonist, modulating melanocyte receptor signals; inhibits tyrosinase activity; and decreases melanin production triggered by UVB exposure. Furthermore, HCP antagonizes α-MSH and ET-1 induced effects on melanoma cells, promotes melanosome transfer, and regulates the PKA/cAMP response element-binding (CREB) and MEK/extracellular signaling-regulated kinase (ERK) pathways to suppress melanin synthesis and the expression of related proteins like MITF, tyrosinase, and tyrosinase-related protein-2.

Stability
Stable, light-resistant, and heat-resistant within its optimal pH range (3.0-9.0). For maintaining bioactivity and integrity long-term, storage between 4°C and 8°C is recommended to prevent degradation, oxidation, and microbial contamination.
Safety
Safety Profile
Hydrolyzed Conchiolin Protein is generally considered safe for cosmetic use, noted as non-poisonous, non-irritant, and non-allergenic. While not individually reviewed by CIR, broader categories of 'tissue-derived proteins and peptides' and 'hydrolyzed source proteins' have been deemed safe. Some individuals with sensitive skin may experience mild, temporary irritation upon initial use.
