Mechanism of Action
This biomimetic tripeptide operates by mimicking the 'RAL' (Arg-Ala-Leu) triplet found in the Desmocollin protein. It strategically occupies the binding sites of desmosomes, the structures responsible for cellular adherence in the epidermis. By preventing the normal interaction between Desmocollin and Desmoglein's 'YAT' (Tyr-Ala-Thr) site, it effectively reduces the links connecting keratinocytes, thereby accelerating the shedding of dead skin cells (desquamation). Its unique structure, including the replacement of Leucine with Norleucine, enhances its resistance to enzymatic breakdown and increases its ability to penetrate the skin's outer layer, further supported by hexanoic acid conjugation at the N-terminus for improved stability and delivery.
