Mechanism of Action
Genistein Glucoside typically transforms into its biologically active aglycone form, Genistein, upon skin application, although the glycoside itself also exhibits activity. As an aglycone, Genistein functions as a robust antioxidant, adept at neutralizing free radicals and impeding oxidative processes. It acts as a phytoestrogen, effectively mimicking estrogen to mitigate skin thinning and collagen depletion, especially beneficial in estrogen-deficient conditions. Furthermore, Genistein significantly boosts the production of Type I and III collagen and hyaluronic acid, leading to enhanced skin hydration, elasticity, and a reduction in visible wrinkles. Its anti-inflammatory capabilities stem from its ability to modulate inflammatory pathways, decrease oxidative stress, and alter the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α. It actively preserves dermal matrix integrity by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and stimulating tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs).
