The Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) has conducted a safety assessment, recommending usage up to 5.0000% in fragrance concentrates. For finished cosmetic products, maximum acceptable concentrations vary by category; for instance, 0.069% in lip products and 1.9% for rinse-off body and hand products. The compound is not anticipated to be genotoxic, and exposure levels fall below the Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC) for repeated dose, reproductive, and local respiratory toxicity for a Cramer Class I material. Although specific skin sensitization studies are limited, its chemical structure suggests it is unlikely to directly react with skin proteins. One inconclusive sensitization reaction was noted in 1 of 65 subjects at a high 12% concentration in human maximization tests, potentially due to other materials. Based on existing data and Dermal Sensitisation Threshold (DST) application, it is considered a low concern for skin sensitization at current usage levels.
