Mechanism of Action
This ingredient operates by creating a fine, occlusive film on the stratum corneum, which effectively reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and enhances skin smoothness. Its amphiphilic molecular structure, featuring a branched alkyl chain and an ester linkage, allows it to subtly interact with and disrupt the lipid lamellae within the stratum corneum, potentially facilitating improved penetration of itself and other active compounds. This mechanism contributes to its strong emolliency, interfacial activity, and excellent spreadability in formulations, restoring suppleness and diminishing flaking in dry or compromised skin.
