Esters of Pelargonic Acid are not found to be genotoxic, dermal irritants, or sensitizers. While the FDA permits Pelargonic Acid as a synthetic flavoring substance in food, the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials (RIFM) has identified a potential for skin sensitization in a small fraction of individuals and has established a maximum acceptable concentration to mitigate this risk.
