Mechanism of Action
This extract imparts anti-aging and soothing benefits primarily through its blend of antioxidants, alkylamides, glycoproteins, and polysaccharides. Phenolic compounds actively defend skin against environmental aggressors that contribute to visible aging. Its anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and anti-irritant actions are attributed to caffeic acid derivatives, alkylamides, and polysaccharides. Notably, cichoric acid inhibits hyaluronidase, an enzyme that degrades hyaluronic acid, thereby potentially increasing skin's natural hyaluronic acid levels to aid wound healing and reduce inflammation. It also neutralizes free radicals and can modulate inflammatory responses by decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokines while boosting wound-closure proteins like TGF-β1.

Alkamides maintain better stability in alcohol-based solutions compared to dry films, with phenolic acids acting as co-antioxidants. Stability in aqueous solutions can be enhanced by co-solvents such as ethanol, propylene glycol, glycerol, and sorbitol, but may decrease in the presence of sugar.
