Mechanism of Action
This extract operates via multiple pathways to enhance skin health. For hyperpigmentation, it actively inhibits tyrosinase activity and melanin formation, concurrently downregulating melanogenesis-related proteins such as MITF, TRP-1, and TRP-2. Its anti-inflammatory action is mediated by suppressing interleukin markers (ILs), reducing nitric oxide (NO) production, inhibiting nuclear translocation of NF-κB, and downregulating TNF-α in stimulated cells, and has been shown to mitigate DNCB-induced inflammatory dermatitis in vivo. As a potent antioxidant, it exhibits high scavenging activities against DPPH, ABTS, and reactive oxygen species (ROS), and demonstrates superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activities, attributed to its rich content of phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Furthermore, it possesses antimicrobial properties, effectively inhibiting the growth of various skin-disrupting bacteria and fungi including Porphyromonas gingivalis, S. epidermidis, S. aureus, and Candida albicans. Additional benefits include moisturizing and contributing to anti-aging and anti-wrinkle effects.
