Mechanism of Action
This red algae extract acts through multiple pathways to improve skin health. Its robust antioxidant properties directly neutralize free radical damage, while its hygroscopic nature effectively draws and retains moisture in the skin. The extract promotes revitalizing and re-mineralizing effects, stimulates microcirculation, and accelerates cellular renewal. Bioactive compounds, including phenolic compounds, found in marine algae, underpin its anti-aging, photoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anti-melanogenic activities.

No specific optimal pH range for Delesseria Sanguinea Extract was identified. However, analogous red seaweed pigments are generally stable within a pH range of 4 to 10.
Safety
Safety Profile
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel noted insufficient data in 2021 to determine systemic safety for Delesseria Sanguinea Extract and 48 other red algae-derived ingredients. However, human dermal sensitization studies involving mixtures with 0.2-4% Delesseria Sanguinea Extract reported no sensitization. Similarly, animal dermal irritation assays at 0.2-4% showed no irritation. Acute oral toxicity studies indicated an LD50 > 2000 mg/kg in rats. SkinSAFE independently lists this ingredient as 'Irritant Free'.
