Mechanism of Action
Cysteamine actively interrupts the melanin synthesis pathway by inhibiting key enzymes, tyrosinase and peroxidase. It also elevates intracellular glutathione levels, which shifts melanin production from darker eumelanin to lighter pheomelanin. Furthermore, it scavenges dopaquinone, removing it from the melanogenesis process, and chelates metal ions like iron and copper, thereby disrupting Fenton reactions that contribute to pigment formation.
