Mechanism of Action
This extract exerts its effects through a sophisticated anti-inflammatory pathway. It significantly diminishes nitric oxide (NO) production and downregulates the expression of key inflammatory enzymes, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Furthermore, it reduces intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and inhibits the phosphorylation of pro-inflammatory signaling proteins such as NF-κB p65 and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), including ERK, JNK, and p38. Concurrently, it promotes the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a critical regulator of cellular metabolism and inflammation. Beyond these anti-inflammatory actions, it also functions as an antioxidant and provides astringent and skin conditioning properties.
